Fatimah Fong's case is yet another case of conflict of laws.. The civil court has granted custody of the child to the muslim convert mother...that by itself is fine by me. But this mother claims to have converted the child to Islam. The father of the child had apparently not agreed to the conversion of the child. So it cannot be right...then the story goes that the mother may file for divorce in the syariah court..if that is true it is not right. The syariah court does not have jurisdiction to dissolve the non Muslim marriage...it is NOT A MUSLIM MARRIAGE THAT CAN BE DISSOLVED IN THE ISLAMIC MANNER...it is as simple as that..but will good sense prevail? We shall see.
